Abstract

Background. The development of modern societies takes place in conditions of acute social, economic and environmental problems. Business as part of a social system has significant impact on it. In this regard, special attention is paid to corporate social responsibility. The relevance of the research topic is due to several reasons. On the one hand, the usefulness of corporate social responsibility for society consists in solving global and local development problems, building trust and common values. On the other hand, the value of corporate social responsibility for organizations consists in reducing the negative impact of their production activities, shaping the sustainability of business in social and economic terms, increasing their intangible assets. Corporate social responsibility continues to be the leading factor in achieving good business results. The research purpose is to study the theoretical and practical bases of formation and development of corporate social responsibility in the modern world.
Materials and methods. The implementation of research tasks was achieved on the basis of scientific information sources study in regarding specifics, factors of corporate social responsibility, data in studies of corporate social responsibility policy of foreign and domestic organizations. The methodology of the research is based on system approach.
Results. The theoretical foundations of corporate social responsibility concept are presented, the mechanisms for its formation are analyzed, the ways to improve social efficiency of organizations are considered taking into account domestic and foreign experience.
Conclusions. Corporate social responsibility provides significant benefits to modern organizations: improving image, investment attractiveness and competitive advantages. Foreign experience testifies to wide spreading of corporate social responsibility system, perceiving it as strategic area of activity. Implementation of corporate social responsibility in domestic companies is not always carried out at proper level. However, every year an increasing number of Russian organizations are focusing on developing their own corporate social responsibility programs.
